Football: Match Reports: Rushden 4 Cambridge 1.

RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS romped to an emphatic victory over near neighbours Cambridge after the visitors had wasted a host of early chances.

Omer Riza and David Kitson both missed the target for Cambridge when it seemed easier to score before Stuart Gray made them pay from close range.

The home side doubled their lead with a fine goal from David Bell, the teenager coolly slotting the ball into the bottom left-hand corner following a 50-yard run.

It was no surprise when Rushden scored a third shortly before the end when Paul Hall fired home following a mazy run.

Cambridge grabbed a consolation via a penalty from Paul Wanless, but then Hall curled a 25-yarder into the top corner.
