Football: Laz go for Di Canio.

PAOLO DI CANIO has agreed to return to Lazio after speaking to club president Claudio Lolito.

The Italian firebrand, 36, flew into Rome this week to finalise the details of a two-year deal that will see him back at the club where he started his career.

Despite signing a one-year contract with Charlton during the summer, the lure of a return home is proving too great for Di Canio to ignore - and he is ready to take a significant pay cut.

He said: "I would do anything for Lazio. This move was too important to pass up. I don't think my club will refuse my request to return to Lazio.''

Charlton overcame Chievo 3-1 in their final pre-season friendly last night. Shaun Bartlett cancelled out Federico Cossato's opener before Bryan Hughes' penalty and Jonatan Johansson's goal ensured victory.
