Football: LAY OFF BERT; Advocaat backs flop Konterman.
RANGERS manager Dick Advocaat has defended struggling Dutch defender Bert Konterman after he was booed by his own fans during the 2-0 defeat by Dundee United.
Konterman was the closest defender to United scorers Steven Thompson and Derek Lilley at both goals and was subjected to a barrage of abuse after the second.
Konterman has found it difficult to settle into a Rangers defence which has been badly affected by injury this season since his pounds 4million summer transfer from Feyenoord.
Advocaat though insisted the fans were wrong to single out the central defender for criticism.
He said: "I have confidence that things will turn out all right. You win as a team and lose at a team - it's unfair to pick on an individual."
While Advocaat praised United's performance he claimed that his own side will improve once they recapture full fitness and he insisted they will still beat Hibs to the crucial second Champions League slot to Hibs.
He said: "While there are no excuses for losing, we brought back Jorg Albertz who hadn't played for seven weeks and Tony Vidmar who has been out for eight.
"Tugay has been out for five and so has Reyna.
"They are all good players - no one can tell me they are not.
"But I am confident we will still win second place."
