Football: HEAVYWEIGHTS GO HEAD TO HEAD.

MANCHESTER United host Juventus in a Champions League clash of the titans at Old Trafford tonight which will go a long way to determining a much-prized quarterfinal berth.

Here, Post Sport looks at the key battles the Red Devils will be looking to win.

ROY KEANE v EDGAR DAVIDSKeane lost out in his personalduel with Patrick Vieira at Old Trafford at the weekend but Juve will not need reminding that it was the Irishman who pulled United back from the brink and set up glorious victory in their 1999 semi-final.

Nicknamed `Pitbull', Davids is noted for his tigerish tackling and high-energy playing style. The tenacious Dutchman shares many of Keane's characteristics, including being sent home from a major championship - Euro 96 - for criticising the tactics of his coach. Wears protective glasses during matches to combat acute glaucoma but that hasn't dulled his competitive streak.

RUUD VAN NISTELROOY v DAVID TREZEGUET Van Nistelrooy has an enviable record in Europe's premier club competition. Second phase doubles against Basel and Deportivo have taken the Dutchman's career total in the competition to 26 goals in just 30 appearances, not including the two he bagged against Zalaegerszeg in qualifying.

Trezeguet was expected to set the world on fire during last summer's World Cup but, like the rest of his French teammates, returned from the Far East a discredited figure.

Plagued by injury since his move to Juve, Trezeguet must carry the extra burden caused by the absence of playmaker Alessandro del Piero.
