Football: Giggs set to query Inter bid.
RYAN GIGGS is to ask Manchester United to explain claims by Inter Milan that he was offered to them as part of a player-swap deal.
Inter say United were prepared to use Giggs as bait to land Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro and Sierra Leone striker Mohammed Kallon when the transfer window opens. And although Inter ruled out a swap deal they insist they will now move for Giggs in the summer with an offer in excess of pounds 20million.
Inter technical director Gabriele Oriali, who oversees the club's transfers, said: "Giggs is is fundamental to our plans of strengthening the team. We could have him now with part exchange because under certain conditions United were available for this kind of deal. But our intention now is to wait until the summer when we will make a significant offer."
Giggs insists his loyalties remain with United and despite the interest he intends to see out his current five-year contract.
Yet he is sufficiently concerned by the latest transfer speculation to seek clarification about his future from United chiefs when he arrives at the club's training headquarters today.
Last night a spokesman for Manchester United said: "Ryan Giggs knows all about speculation linking him with Italian clubs and has said he wants to spend the rest of his career at Old Trafford. Other than that we do not comment on transfer speculation."
