Football: Forget the failures.. our season starts at Spurs, insists Moyes.

Byline: By DAVID MADDOCK

DAVID MOYES issued a wake-up call to his struggling side last night, when he told them: "The season starts here."

The Everton boss was angered by his team's performance in their last game, when they capitulated at Manchester City, to leave them anchored to the bottom of the table.

That capped a miserable start to the campaign, which saw them go out of the Champions League and UEFA Cup, and also score just one goal in seven matches, as they struggled badly to match last year's incredible form.

Moyes said: "I have told the players the season starts here. They have got to realise that everything up to this point has gone - there is no point looking back. We have to realise where we are and what is happening, and go forward from here."

He admitted he read them the riot act when his side lost so lamely at City.

Moyes called the squad together on their day off and told them a few home truths. He added: "I was not happy with the second-half performance at the City of Manchester Stadium, but they are a brilliant group.

"They are hurting as much as anyone and that gives me hope because if they feel bad, in time they'll put that right."
