LEEDS-LIVERPOOL CANAL: Pole-fished punch bread is the best method for roach, bream and tench, though hempseed is certainly producing quality roach. Top spots are Brewery Lane, Hall Lane and Maghull Cricket Club.
SANKEY-ST HELENS CANAL: Upper pound is producing some good isolated catches of silver fish and some nice carp up into double figures. The lower pound is showing signs of improvement with some nice small carp and tench. BANNISTER FARM, South-port 01704 821474: Good sport with mixed nets of chub, carp and bream, on pole and pellet. BROOKSIDE, Stretton 01925 730893:
Great fishing and record match catch from Willow Pool. Carp are feeding well and soft pellets are the best hookbait.
BURTON MERE, South Wirral 0151 353 0115: Double-figure weight carp have been caught on the main lake. CARR MILL DAM, St Helens 01744 602037: Pole and wag-gler tactics with caster and red maggot have been catching plenty of skimmers and roach.
COW HEY DAM, Newton 01925 221801: Producing some very good catches of hybrids, bream, rudd, perch, roach and carp, whilst the lagoon is turning up some very good catches of roach, rudd, perch and skimmers. GREEN'S LANE PONDS, Lydiate 07808 764374: Plenty of bites from small fish on maggot but bread baits and corn are catching tench and carp.
HAMPTON SPRINGS, Mal-pas 01948 820789: The new lake, Willow, opened this week in style with several catches hovering around 90lb consisting of carp to 3lb on pole and sweetcorn. HARTHILL FISHERY, Brox-ton 01829 782475: Improving by the week with carp, tench and roach being caught on the main lake. MEADOW VIEW, Lymm 01925 757985: Long pole with corn hookbait is the best way to catch a lot of carp at the moment. All three lakes are now giving returns of small carp, orfe, tench and some silver fish.
MESCAR LAKE, Lydiate 07808 764374: Will soon be at its best. Straight leger tactics with corn hookbait has been producing carp to 4lb but short pole and caster has been good for silver fish. MOATHOUSE FARM, Bur-tonwood 01925 221801: The lake is fishing well for small to double figure carp and silver fish, day permits are pounds 5. VULCAN RESERVOIR, Newton 01925 221801: Vulcan Reservoir remains the form water this week with some very good catches of roach, skimmers, perch, gudgeon, ide, tench and small carp. Pole-fished pinkies, punched bread, squat, and red maggot all work.
YEW TREE RESERVOIR, Haydock 01925 292231: The reservoir seems to have come to life this week and there was a super carp for Bob Heaps in the shape of a 22lb mirror. Other large carp and lots of silver fish featured too.
