Football: Euro 2000 Diary: Pleat desperately unfunny.

A QUICK flick to the least watched game of Euro 2000 - Denmark v the Czech Republic - proved fruitful if only for proof that not only is David Pleat a waste of time as a pundit, he is also spectacularly unfunny.

There's nothing like a good footy lookalike and Pleat's contribution was absolutely nothing like a good footy lookalike.

"Ah, now I remember who he reminds me of," said the Tottenham director of football of Danish midfielder Stig Tofting. "Desperate Dan out of that comic strip."

The pictures to the right render detailed itemisation of exactly how different the two appear unnecessary.

What next? "Cor, isn't Jan Koller a dead ringer for Frankie Dettori," or perhaps "Well blow me down with a feather if that person wearing Paul Scholes' shirt isn't 1970s West Ham star Clyde Best."
