Football: County record win; Stockport 3 Swindon 0.

STOCKPORT COUNTY smashed a Football League record with a ninth straight win which has also seen them record nine consecutive clean sheets.

The home side had the better of the first-half exchanges as they comprehensively defeated 10-man Swindon.

Anthony Pilkington came close as he fired narrowly wide from 20 yards in the opening minutes.

County's Jason Taylor came close after 10 minutes, but saw a fine shot well saved by Robins keeper Phil Smith.

The home side successfully got on the scoresheet after 16 minutes when Adam Proudlock crossed the ball in for strike partner Anthony Elding, and the 24-year-old striker slid home from close range. Swindon strikers Lee Peacock and Blair Sturrock both missed great chances to level matters before the break, while at the other end Elding saw a shot saved at the second attempt by Smith.

Stockport remained dominant though and doubled their lead after 50 minutes with Elding getting his second of the game.

He turned smartly in the box before firing the ball home from 15 yards.

Elding came close to a third after 70 minutes when he screwed a close-range shot wide.

Swindon's Jerel Ifil was sent off for a second booking after 75 minutes to complete a miserable day for the visitors.

Then a fantastic finish from substitute Liam Dickinson wrapped it up for Stockport after 85 minutes.
