Football: Clyde land Austin to power SPL push.
CLYDE beat last night's transfer deadline to sign Hearts defender Austin McCann as they bid to strengthen their push towards the SPL.
The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a first-team place at Tynecastle and will now help the Broadwood outfit's bid for promotion.
Clyde boss Alan Kernaghan has also snapped up Parkhead youngster Steve Jack until the end of the season.
Kernaghan said: 'Austin will give us something extra on the left side while Steven can give us cover in midfield and also possibly at right-back.'
The deals were two of several last-minute moves involving Scottish clubs yesterday as the curtain was pulled on the transfer window.
Dumbarton added 22-year-old Norwegian midfielder Bjorn Skjelbred from EIK Tonsberg on an amateur deal.
Alloa moved in time to bring back Derek Clark from Brechin City.
Midfielder Clark moved from Recreation Park two years ago but manager Tom Hendrie stepped in yesterday to re-sign him.
Dennis Newall has made his first signings as boss of East Stirling. Jordan Leishman has returned to the club after a six month absence and six-foot striker Peter Kaines has arrived from amateur football.
Motherwell teenager Philip Reid has joined Elgin City. The 17-year-old forward was previously with Celtic youths.
