Football: Chesterfield 1 Walsall 0.

WALSALL fought their hosts every inch of the way as Chesterfield clinched their fourth home win of the season.

Mark Hudson's first-half goal divided the sides, but Paul Merson's men deserved a point for a stirring second-half revival.

Chesterfield played some cracking football in the opening period, but fell away after the break and in the closing stages were left hanging on.

Live-wire Chesterfield striker Tcham N'Toya created the opening with a near post shot that came back off the post for Hudson to bundle over the line.

But in the second-half all the chances fell to Walsall, with player-boss Merson squandering a close-range header while a mazy run from Jorge Leitao deserved better than his tame shot.
