Football: Carroll bags brace to secure Poulton's first trophy; AMATEUR FOOTBALL Wallasey Sunday League.
POULTON ROYAL claimed their first silverware when lifting the Capitol Cup as they beat holders The Tower 2-1.
An early goal by Peter Simon gave Tower the lead but a disputed penalty gave Tommy Carroll a leveller from the spot.
The second half saw Tower in the ascendancy for long periods, with Craig Griffiths leading the way, but with time running out man of the match Carroll latched on to a defensive error to lob the Poulton winner.
However, The Tower enjoyed success earlier in the week in the Magee Cup as they beat Grange FC 3-0, with James Locke netting a superb treble to take their man of the match award.
One more league victory will also see them take the Premier Division title ahead of Clarence FC.
The Division Two final saw Oyster Catcher claim their third trophy, beating The Brighton 5-1. Defensive kingpin Gareth Hibbs gave Oyster the solidity required to enable Carl Howell, Wesley Hinds, John Davies and Paul Harding (2), to inflict the damage on a spirited Brighton, who bagged the goal of the game by Paul Matthews and had captain Lee Parsons as their man of the match.
Townfield kept their promotion hopes alive with a 6-0 win over unbeaten champions Grange FC in Division One, as Andy Ward (2), Mike Roche (2), Colin Newton and Adam Parker got the goals.
The Youth Division title is still up for grabs as Princes Villa Youth beat Irby Youth in midweek and then beat Heygarth United 3-1, thanks to Tom McGill (2) and John Lith finding the net. Shore Villa Colts stand in their way following their 6-0 success over Ellesmere Port due to Alex Wood and Ave Bowe netting twice and Matty Carlin and Mark Hunt scoring one each in a runaway victory that keeps them top, but only on goal difference. The title decider could be on the last day when Villa race against the Colts for top billing.
