Football: Bury 2 Shrewsbury 0.

JON NEWBY returned from a five-month injury lay-off to steer Bury to their first win of the season.

He made an immediate impact after entering the fray as a second-half substitute, heading home a crucial goal on 70 minutes.

Shrewsbury defender Dave Walton thought he had pulled off a sensational clearance but, to the dismay of the visiting fans, the officials adjudged the ball had already crossed the line.

Shrewsbury applied late pressure but they offered little as an attacking force and Brian Barry-Murphy wrapped up the points for the home side with an audacious 40-yard effort into an open goal in stoppage time.
