Football: Bri hopes French fancy him.

FORMER Celt Brian McLaughlin is sweating on a move to French outfit Niort.

The Scots winger spent a short trial spell across the English Channel attempting to win a contract.

McLaughlin is now back at current club Wigan waiting anxiously to hear if the French are to follow up their interest.

Niort are expected to make a final decision this month and will inform the former Parkhead and Dundee United star at the end of the week.

The 26-year-old has endured a nightmare time at Athletic and has played just 25 minutes of top team action for John Benson's side, who are in the Second Division play-off final

Carlisle United are also interested in signing the skilful Scot but any moves for playing staff are on hold until the Brunton Park side appoint a new manager.
