Football: Boost for Walter as Moldova crash.
SCOTLAND boss Walter Smith is increasingly hopeful of chalking up
his first international victory.
Smith was buoyed after next World Cup opponents Moldova crashed to defeat in a friendly with Romania.
The former Soviet state lost 2-0 in Bacau in their final warm-up game before next week's Group Five showdown at Hampden.
Goals early in each half from Claudiu Niculescu and Nicolae Dica gave the home team victory. Smith has warned his players that Moldova, who drew 1-1 with Scotland last year, will be no pushovers.
Meanwhile, Group Five opponents Norway eased to a 1-0 win against Costa Rica in preparation for their clash with leaders Italy.
That game will be played on the same day the Scots face Moldova.
Age Hareide's side won with a Frode Johnsen header in Oslo
