Football: BRISTOL FASHION; Perry thinks play-off draw may favour City.

Byline: Terry Phillips

JASON Perry is backing Cardiff City for promotion, saying: ``Bristol City could turn out to be the best draw of the lot.''

Welsh international Perry believes the Bluebirds and Newport can complete a magnificent season for Wales, saying: ``If City go up via the play-offs, and County can win the FAW Premier Cup on Thursday, it would mean success all-round.

``Wrexham have won promotion to Division Two, Swansea City have stayed in the Football League, which is like winning the FA Cup final for them, and Merthyr Tydfil have won their league. I'm banking on a clean sweep with City, Newport - and Wales to qualify for Euro 2004.''

Perry was at Bristol City when the Bluebirds faced their rivals in the League and lost 2-0, travelling down with the fans, but he predicts a change of fortune this time.

``Cardiff haven't beaten Bristol City away for many years, but they

can't worry about that. If there is a hoodoo it has to end at some stage and there is no better time than now.

``Bristol City could be the best opponents to have. All the pressure is on them and I know as a player it's never easy when you have beaten opponents twice and then have to play them again. Everybody expects you to win and it doesn't always follow.

``Bristol City won't be happy to play Cardiff, who will have learned from the experience against Stoke last season.

``The players must think back on how they felt after the match at Stoke when they won in the first leg - and then how they felt after the return game when they had gone out. They won't want that awful feeling again.

``I played for Cardiff in 1996-97 when we lost against Northampton. That was horrible.

``Deep down, I believe Cardiff can go up via the play-offs, I really do.

``Come on you Bluebirds.''
