Football: Allardyce cashes in over Didi.

Byline: By SCOTT DOUGLAS

SNUBBED Sam Allardyce claims the deal that took Didi Hamann to Manchester City was his best ever piece of transfer wheeling and dealing.

The midfielder stunned the Bolton boss when he asked for a move just hours after joining from Liverpool last month.

Allardyce was unhappy with the U-turn, but after giving Hamann the allclear to find a new club, managed to secure a hefty fee for the 32-year-old.

"Didi Hamann is a history breaker," said Allardyce. "I'm the only manager to get pounds 400,000 for a player who has never kicked a ball for the club."

Allardyce was still smarting at the turn of events, particularly as it was the former Bayern Munich man who instigated a move to the Reebok Stadium 12 months after rejecting Bolton's initial approach.

And he said he had not been told the exact reason for the change of heart.

He added: "Didi Hamann disappointed me for two reasons. The first is that the player and his agent resurrected the interest in Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season after we'd missed out on him 12 months before.

"Secondly, he didn't tell the full story when he tried to get out of the agreement he had with us.

"Because of that, I have managed to get this club pounds 400,000. It's the best transfer deal I have ever done in my life."

Allardyce said the matter was now closed.

He added: "I've no regrets whatsoever. Life moves on and my whole thought process is channelled to strengthening the squad.

"For example, it's like Ivan Campo, who signed a new two-year contract last month. Ivan is arguably the best player we've had in the sitting role.

"He's having an excellent close season and should be ready for a massive campaign. In some respects, because of his injuries of last season, it's like having a new player in our ranks."
