Football: 10-MONTH STAM BAN.

Byline: MARTIN ROGERS

ITALY'S anti-doping prosecutor last night called for a 10-month ban to be imposed on former Manchester United star Jaap Stam.

Lazio's Dutch international tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone two months ago and is in the process of trying to clear his name.

Stam and his aides had a hearing with anti-doping prosecutor Giacomo Aiello - with Dutch national team doctor Ronald Staal insisting defender Stam is innocent.

The recommendation and the evidence gathered by the prosecutor will now be passed to the Italian Football League's disciplinary commission who will take the final decision.q
