Folk hero Furey hits write note.

FOLK hero Finbar Furey has written a murder mystery novel based on his life on the road.

Finbar spent the last three years pounding out the thriller while touring the world.

The Dubliner, who parted company with the Furey Brothers some years ago, said the novel, simply entitled Andy, will be released before Christmas.

Finbar said: "It is a black comedy about a rock band.

"There's murder, blackmail and all sorts of twists in the story and I based it on a rock singer I knew myself years ago."

Finbar, who was recently commissioned by the BBC to write the music for a hard-hitting series on the Irish famine called The Hungry Grass, said he is also close to completing two more novels.

He has also written a rock song to go with his first book and hopes eventually to turn it into a screenplay.
