Foggy conditions likely to intensify this week: Chief Met.

ISLAMABAD, November 21, 2011 (Balochistan Times): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday forecast that the foggy conditions prevailing in some parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to intensify during the current week. Talking to, Chief Meteorologist Dr Ghulam Rasul said that the foggy conditions are prevailing from Peshawar to Rawalpindi and Bhera to Lahore and its peak time is 2200 hours to 0600 hours. The visibility reduced to one kilometre during the period, however, it was recorded 500 meters in the areas of Sukhaiki and Sial Morr on Motorway during peak hours, he said. Dr Rasul said the maximum visibility require for speedy traffic is two to three kilometres, however, it sometimes reduced to two meters or 10 to 12 feet only in severe fog days. He said that the peak hours of fog start at 2300 hours and end at 0500 hours and due to the dry weather prevailing over the country, foggy conditions are likely to intensify during this week. However, cloudy weather condition is also expected in upper parts of the country especially in Potohar zone during November 23-24 and may cause drizzle during the period and also cause snowfall over the hills on the northern areas, he said. Dr Rasul said that the months of November and December are likely to remain dry in comparison with the last years as no significant weather system is likely in the coming days. Todays minimum temperatures were Islamabad 9C, Lahore 13C, Quetta 5C, Karachi 19C, Peshawar 12C, Muzaffarabad 9C, Gilgit 5C, Murree 8C, Multan 15C and Faisalabad 13C. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Gupis -2C.
