OT speaks to exhibitors who will be in the Lenses Hall at 100% Optical 2015 to find out about the attractions for visitors being offered

Shamir UK

Tanya Storey, product development manager

Established in 1972 as a manufacturer of bifocal lenses, and quickly moving into development of progressive lenses, Shamir is ranked among the world's top 10 progressive lens manufacturers. Today Shamir operates within 25 countries, including two manufacturing facilities for moulds and semi-finished lenses and 12 surfacing laboratories throughout the world, with a total workforce of some 2,500.

What is your most popular product/service for optical practices? Shamir is best known for its extensive portfolio of spectacle lenses. Whatever optical need is identified, Shamir has the answer from all-purpose progressive and occupational lenses, to sophisticated, individual lifestyle progressives, as well as outdoor, sport and fashion, wrap-around progressive and single vision lenses. With standard ranges including up to nine cyls, the widest range of material, coating and filter options available and a speciality laboratory catering for the more unique requests, Shamir customers enjoy a full service package and can be assured that their patients' needs are fully catered for.

Can you give OT a preview of what products will you be showing at 100% Optical 2015? In our latest innovation launching in February 2015, we have taken the already successful Shamir Attitude lens and developed two unique new lenses, one for sport and the other for fashion. Keeping in line with the long-term goal to create personalised lenses with perceivable benefits, the design of these two new lenses addresses the individual visual needs of sport and fashion prescription sun lens wearers for a wide range of frames (high wrap or large eyesize). The new Attitude III sport and fashion lenses have vision zones which are especially suited for any lifestyle or activity, be it extreme sports or an outdoor coffee with friends.

Waterside Laboratories

Chris Smith, joint managing director

Waterside Technologies was established in 1972 by Ray Smith, an experienced glazing technician who had a vision to build a customer-focused company offering first class quality and service to the independent optical sector. The updated and improved Infinity progressive lens series aims to offer cutting-edge technology, resulting in advanced lens design options in the widest range of materials.

What is your most popular product/service for optical practices? Waterside's exclusive Infinity lens range delivers quality, value and choice to independents, offering possibly the most comprehensive range of materials available from any progressive lens provider in the UK, from CR39 through to tintable 1.74. Optikampad is the complete dispensing assistant, precisely capturing all the necessary measurements to dispense our premium range of Infinity personalised progressives.

Why are you exhibiting at 100% Optical in 2015? 100% Optical 2014 provided the opportunity to show the European optical market exactly what Waterside Laboratories can offer. The show presented the perfect platform to launch Optikampad.

Can you give OTa taste of what products will you be showing at the 2015 event? The 2015 100% Optical will see Waterside showcase Smart Glass Technology solutions, including its Smart frames for Google Glass and Smart Gold lens design, which provides a distortion-free zone for viewing heads-up displays. Optikampad will also be on show.

Bausch & Lomb

Tom Bailey, sales and clinical training manager

One of the oldest continually operating companies in the US, Bausch & Lomb traces its roots to 1853, when John Jacob Bausch, established a tiny optical goods shop in Rochester, New York. When he needed more money to keep the business going, Mr Bausch borrowed $60 from his good friend, Henry Lomb, promising that if the business grew, he would be made a full partner. The business did grow and the partnership was formed.

How would you describe the company's ethos and mission? The company is one of the best-known and most respected healthcare brands in the world, offering a wide range of eye health products, including contact lenses and lens care products, as well as pharmaceuticals, intraocular lenses and other eye surgery products.

What is your most popular product/service for optical practices? This would depend on the size of practice, but generally it would be from our wide contact lens portfolio from daily to monthly lenses.

What made the 100% Optical 2014 event a success for you? 100% Optical is proven to be a good way to connect with our customers and to launch new products. It is a well-attended show and we look forward to seeing dispensing opticians, contact lens practitioners, and optometrists, from all over the UK.

Can you give OT a preview of what products will you be showing at the 2015 event? Our new product pipeline is stronger than ever and we will be showcasing our latest innovation including our new lens for daily wear Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia contact lenses--the first daily disposable presbyopic lens to feature HyperGel material. PureVision 2 HD will also be showcased and offers great HD optics and are designed for better vision.
