Focus on innovations--at 2005 WCS and in JCT.

I'm looking forward to the Western Coatings Symposium and FSCT Annual Meeting coming up in Las Vegas in November--I hope to see many of you there. If you have picked COATINGSTECH up for the first time at WCS, welcome! COATINGSTECH was launched in January 2004 as the FSCT member journal successor to JOURNAL OF COATINGS TECHNOLOGY. COATINGSTECH offers news of the industry, of the Federation, and of its constituent societies, as well as technology updates, new product announcements, news of the industry, and a changing mix of articles on a broad spectrum of topics in coatings technology. With this issue and next month's Buyers' Guide, we round out the second year of publication in our new two-journal format. COATINGSTECH is a benefit of membership in the Federation--check out COATINGSTECH and the other benefits of FSCT membership at the Federation booth on the WCS show floor.

Be sure to check out our quarterly research journal, JOURNAL OF COATINGS TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH (JCTR), too. JCTR continues the JOURNAL OF COATINGS TECHNOLOGY traditions of rigorous peer review, careful text editing, and clear presentation to bring you the best of coatings science today. Like COATINGSTECH, JCTR is mailed to all members of the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology as a benefit of membership.

Repeatedly this year in COATINGSTECH we have focused on innovation and change--changes in how we do research, changes in how we do business, changes in the market, changes in methods. This month is no exception. There's a technology update from Eastman discussing the performance of CHDA in polyester polyols for two-component polyurethane coatings. The latest segment in our on-going Analytical Series is on the use of fracture mechanics in the characterization of coatings--a far cry from the "cold-slam" test! There's an in-depth discussion of the growth and use of radiation curing technology in China, and there are updates on corrosion prevention, and a survey of challenges in conformal coatings.

Thanks for reading!
