Climate change and its causes, effects, and prediction series

Wiwanitkit (laboratory medicine, Chulalongkorn U., Thailand) draws on geographical pathology to describe situations and trends that can illustrate what increased climate change, and especially global warming, might bring. Among his topics are the prevalence of malaria and geographical altitude as revealed in an eco-geographical study in a rural area of northern Thailand, applying a geographical information system (GIS) and the Global Positioning System (GPS) to study the distribution of the dengue virus vector Aedes mosquitoes in an epidemic area of Thailand, the correlation between rainfall and the prevalence of Leptospirosis in endemic areas of northeastern Thailand, the pattern analysis of abate sand distribution in stream water, and emerging diseases after a tsunami landing. Clearly he has not had to wander far from home to find evidence of climate change.
