Fly senses hollow promise; Something before the weekend.

ITV launched a game-show channel last week, and promptly let it be known that a gambling channel may be on the way, since the station "could cross-promote via the mass audiences it generates on ITV1", according to a senior executive.

The Fly on the Wall calls to ask if this is the same ITV from which Bet Direct's parent company Sportech recently walked away, leaving behind ample losses and avoiding a lot more, privately bemoaning the fact there had been little evidence of promised cross-promotion of their exclusive interactive venture?

BEST-NAMED Group 1 winner of the month has to be Rags To Riches, the five-year-old who broke into the big time in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie in New Zealand.

He was the product of Entrepreneur, from a nomination given away as the prize in a fundraising draw, and a mare bought from an ad in the equivalent of Exchange & Mart.

The winning raffle ticket cost pounds 21, and the mare changed hands for pounds 124. That's what I call value for money.

THERE was a buzz around Newmarket last week, but no marks at all for the lack of 'away racing' details in the racecard, which included all manner of promotional material but nothing about what was going on elsewhere that afternoon.

Considering that track operator RHT was also open for business - including course-to-course betting -at Cheltenham on two of the days, I wonder if the omission was spotted in the commercially-minded Buckingham Gate control room.
