Flowers for Pauline - city's Mrs Motivator.

AN "AMAZING" motivator who has helped women achieve their target weight for around a decade is the recipient of the Echo's Bouquet of the Week Pauline Davis-Lee MBE, 70, of Heol Tyn-y-Cae, Rhiwbina, Cardiff, was nominated by Emma Redmond from the Canton Slimming World group.

She said: "We would like to nominate Pauline just to say a massive thanks for all her help from all the girls at her Thursday and Tuesday slimming groups and a personal thanks from myself for helping me to achieve and maintain my target weight. Pauline had been a consultant and member of Slimming World for many years and is truly amazing."

Pauline, whowas awarded an MBE after more than three decades working for the Civil Service, has just stepped down as leader of the Slimming World group, although she will continue to attend and encourage others as a member. She said: "It's absolutely wonderful because the night I retired my district manager came along and the members brought me beautiful flowers and gifts. It was really like a retirement party - to have this on top is absolutely wonderful."

Pauline began a leader for the Canton group when the previous leader retired 10 years ago, having lost 3st 10lb herself to achieve a target weight of 10st.

"The group just went from strength to strength," she said. "I ended up having something like 96 members in a session.

"My members are able to ring me from half past eight in the morning to half past eight in the evening, seven days a week, which I think helps.

"It's fabulous to see them reach their target weight and the styles they can wear - they become different people when they lose the weight. They become very confident and it's very rewarding to see."

She added: "It's not a diet - what you ate before you can still eat. You just need to prepare it a little bit differently, that's all. So if you deep fry your chips, you can still have chips but they go inside the oven, and they are ordinary potatoes which are just as good. Parboil them for five minutes then put them on a tray with FryLight."
