Flowering Shrubb has plenty of colour.
Nathan Shrubb made it a Morpeth Harriers repeat by winning a thrilling BUPA Junior Great North Run.
The wet conditions didn't deter Shrubb from replicating Kirk Wilson's winning performance 12 months earlier as he courageously battled to victory after eing pegged back with 800 metres to go.
The 16-year-old from Seghill, who didn't compete last year but finished 17th in 2001, had a healthy lead crossing the Swing Bridge into Gateshead.
However, Jarrow and Hebburn's Martin Wilson caught the former North of England Cross-Country champion and the pair were neck-and-neck until the approach to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
Shrubb then found a new burst of speed and managed to cross the line with four seconds to spare.
Gateshead's Simon Watson, who finished fourth, was the first 15-year-old across the line while Richard Cunningham (Birtley), led the 13-year-olds home.
Cumbria's Chloe Rodham (16) was the first girl to finish in 43rd place overall, with Gateshead's Mary Ferrier having to be content with second place for the second year in a row.
The junior wheelchair race was won by Helen Desmond from Andrew Forsyth.
