Floodwaters trap drivers after deluge.

Byline: PAUL HOOPER

HEAVY rain yesterday left many roads flooded and drivers trapped in their vehicles in Cornwall.

Flood alerts were issued with water rescue crews called to seven incidents in the east of the county.

Firefighters from Wadebridge rescued one motorist from a van in water four feet deep.

Then they were called to a car in floodwater at Hengar Manor, a holiday park near Bodmin.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "River levels are reacting quickly. The main areas of concern are the Rivers Camel, Allen and Bodmin Town Leat."

Floods in fishing village Polperro left streets coated in mud. And a car overturned on the A30 near Bodmin, causing long delays as a lane was closed.
