Flood Emergency Response Capacity Reviewed By RESCUE 1122.
RAWALPINDI, July 11, 2009 (Frontier Star) -- The Punjab Emergency Service Director General, Dr. Rizwan Naseer has reviewed the preparedness and response plan to manage flood emergencies in the province. The flood emergency management capacities were analyzed in a meeting of District Emergency Officers (DEOs). DEOs from Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, D.G. Khan, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, and Sialkot attended the meeting. They briefed the Director General about the professional preparedness and capacities of their water rescue teams. The meeting was informed that the District water rescue teams are equipped with professional water rescue equipment such as fiber glass boat, Inflate-able rubber boat, dry suit, full body and seat rescue harness, life jackets, multiple gas detectors, diving suit, floating lines and life buoys. Additional life jackets have also been provided to the District Water Rescue Teams in the wake of the possible flood emergencies during the moon soon season. The provincial monitoring cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) shall establish close liaison and co-ordinate with the Metrological Department to ensure timely flood forecasting, appropriable level of preparedness and effective response in districts. The importance of the community training and awareness was also emphasized during the meeting. Dr. Rizwan Naseer directed the DEOs to spread awareness of life saving skills at the community level so that every citizen could mange emergency situation effectively and play his role in development of safe communities.
