Flintshire Business Week hailed a success.

A KEY week in the North Wales business calendar was hailed a success for the sixth year running.

Highlights of this year's Flintshire Business Week included a politics and economics day, with a CBI Question Time at Deeside College, and a Bank of England lunch.

The annual Flintshire at Westminster event in London, hosted by David Hanson MP, and two-day exhibition at Convatec, which returned for a second year, were also well attended.

The programme was wrapped-up by the annual Flintshire Business Awards, held at Soughton Hall, where Aerotech Design in Hawarden and Queensferry-based Knauf Insulation picked up two prizes each.

Winner of the Apprenticeship Award, a new category for 2012, was Natasha Cooper from UPM Shotton.

Reflecting on the week, Councillor Peter Macfarlane, cabinet Member for regeneration, said: "Despite these challenging economic times, I am proud to say that Flintshire Business Week continues to thrive. "It is always a pleasure to see the high level of interest FBW receives from companies and our partners. I'd like to thank our sponsors, the organising staff, partners and local businesses for their continued support."

Commenting on the awards, he added: "To be recognised by your peers as being the best in your field is the ultimate accolade. I am proud that the Flintshire Business Awards have earned a reputation for showcasing and rewarding the achievements of the county's most successful businesses."

Jonathan Turner, managing director of headline sponsor AGS Security Systems in Mold, added: "As always, these awards area celebration of the excellence of the leading businesses that are driving forward the region''s economy through these challenging times.

"It is a testament both to the strength and vitality of the business community in Flintshire, and to the significance and stature of the event.

"The quality of the contenders for our Flintshire Business Awards is a shining demonstration of the entrepreneurial spirit which burns so brightly in our business community, which will ultimately lead us out of the economic downturn, and I would like to offer my congratulations to our winners."
