Fleeing flats fire.

All the residents of a three-storey block of flats were evacuated after a fire on the top floor.

Firemen were called to Alnham Court, in Fawdon, Newcastle, at 3am today when fire broke out.

Station officer Keith Hall, of Gosforth Fire Station, said: "We were called out by an automatic alarm system in the flats. A resident had left a pan on in his flat which caused the fire. There were about 10 residents in the flats and all had to be evacuated.

"We were there 40 minutes as the flat where it started was only slightly damaged by smoke. No one was hurt."
