Fleck, Earl. Chasing fire.
Chasing Fire is a sequel to Chasing Bears, but one need not have read the first book to understand the plot of this novel. The characters are the same and new people are added into the mix as we meet Danny's mother and sister. Danny and his family take their annual canoe trip during fire season in Canada. They are confident they can avoid the fire and still have a nice vacation. Mike, Danny's older brother, is fighting the fire, against his mother's wishes, and has promised to meet up with the family at some point on the trail. They also have to worry about a family they rescued from Lake La Croix after the man had a heart attack. Of course, the story ends up with everyone safe, but the adventures along the way are the main draw of the novel. Students who have camping and scouting backgrounds would especially enjoy this book. Libraries looking to add to a collection of books for boys should have this book also. Stacey Conrad, M.S. Reading Teacher, Palmyra, MO
