Flame retardants.


Flame-retardant concentrates in standard formulations or custom made. Pellets, cubes and powders available for use in most thermoplastics. Concentrates can incorporate color and/or other additives.

Additive brominated flame retardants for thermoplastic and thermoset resins. Additive types include decabromodiphenyl oxide (DE-83R), bistribromophenoxyethane (FF-680), octabromodiphenyl oxide (DE-79), pentabromodiphenyl oxide (DE-71), dibromopolyphenylene oxide (P0-64P), polydibromostyrene (PDBS-80), and two carbonate oligomers of tetrabromobisphenol A (BC-52 and BC-58), which are compounded into thermoplastics such as HIPS, ABS, PP, PE, nylon, and polyester. Products also used for LDPE and EPDM wire and cable insulation. Tetrabromophthalate ester (DP-45) recommended for flexible PVC. Pentabromodiphenyl oxide (DE-60F Special, DE-61 and DE-62) and Firemaster 642 (a proprietary halogenated phosphate ester) may be used as an additive system for flexible urethane foam. Hexabromocyclodecane (CD-75P) and tetrahromobisphenol A-bis ally! ester (BE-51) and tribromophenol ally! ether (PHE-65) recommended for expanded PS foam.

Reactive brominated flame retardants include tetrabromobisphenol A (BA-59P) and tetrabromophthalic anhydride (PHT-4) for epoxies and unsaturated polyesters. Dibromostyrene can be reacted into any polymer system to replace styrene monomer. For rigid urethanes, a diol of tetrabromophthalic anhydride (PHT-4 Dial) is used as a reactive flame retardant.

Intumescent flame retardants available as alternatives to conventional brominated products. NH-1511 and NH-1197 are phosphorus-based flame retardants for PP, PE, thermoplastic polyester and epoxy resins. Available as liquids or solids with a range of organic bromine content, melt points, and organic solubilities.

Full line of phosphate-based flame retardants includes triphenyl phosphate, resorcirol diphosphate, bisphenyl-A disphosphate, and numerous other phosphate esters, which can be used in PVC, engineering thermoplastics, and other applications.

Grades of antimony oxide include high-tint TMS, low-tint Trutint and submicron Microfine. Available as dry powders; damped with oils, water or plasticizers; dispersions in oils, water or plasticizers; or predispersed in nondusting forms under the tradenames of Fyrebloc for pellet concentrates and Envirostrand for a high-loading patented strand product.

Fyrebloc and Envirostrand products can incorporate other flame retardants such as halogens, in addition to antimony, and can be tailored to suit application requirements. Range of standard products available to suit most polymers.

Smokebloc smoke suppressants and inorganic flame-retardant synergists primarily designed for PVC, but have application in other polymer areas. Products include Ongard 2 magnesium/zinc complex with strong smoke suppressancy and flame-retardant synergism; AZ products, which incorporate both antimony and zinc chemistry; and Smokebloc Eleven and Twelve, which incorporate antimony and molybdenum chemistry.

Also supplies Firesheild and Thermoguard antimony oxide in various particle sizes, including ultrafine grades that preserve the physical properties of resins and grades that have lower tinting strength, which can save on coloring costs. Thermoguard FR sodium antimonate has a basic p1-1 and is used as a synergist in acid-sensitive polymers like PET, PBT, and PC. It has low opacity and permits formulating semi-transparent FR compounds.

Declorane Plus is a highly stable chlorinated organic product available in various particle sizes. This nonmelting, white solid is heat stable up to 320[degrees]C, hydrolytically stable, uv stable, and nonreactive. It also reportedly imparts superior electrical properties for uses in wire and cable. It has lower density (1.8 g/cc) and generates less smoke than most bra-minated flame retardants. It is used in a wide variety of plastics like ABS, epoxy, EVA, PE, PP, PBT, nylon, phenolic, unsaturated polyester, polyurethane, and styrenic TPE.

Pyronil 45 is an organic liquid containing 45% bromine that can serve as a secondary FR or FR plasticizer in ABS, epoxy, PPO/ PPE alloys, PBT, PC, PVC, polyurethane, and unsaturated polyester. It also acts as a flow promoter. Uses include wire and cable, electronics, car eting, upholstery, and building insulation.


Cesa-flain niasterbatches offer a wide range of efficient and universally usable halogenated flame retardants as well as some specific halogen-free solutions. Unlike flame retardants that are incorporated into the polymer molecule during polymerization, flame-retardant masterbatches allow variable dosing levels and thus enhance flexibility during process. Effects may be either physical or chemical, occurring in either the gaseous or solid phase. Custom masterbatches also available along with masterbatches that combine active ingredients with selected pigments and dyestuffs.


Offers several grades of Exolit ammonium polyphosphate-based flame retardants for PUR foams, thermoplastics, elastomers, and thermosets.

Exolit AP 760 is particularly suitable for PP and PE, meeting UL94 V-0 flame retardant specifications. AP 751 fuctionalized version is for fiber reinforced PP compounds. Other new halogen-free grades are Exolit OP 550 reactive liquid phosphorous-based polyol for flexible and rigid polyether foams and new Exolit OP range of flame retardants for poly-amide and polyester applications.


Provides polymeric, environmentally-friendly, flame retardant solutions to the plastics industry. Our non-halogenated polyphosphonate copolymers and homopolymers provide a range of toughness, arc transparent, possess high melt flow and achieve the highest limiting oxygen index of all commercially available thermoplastics. FRX Polymers are particularly well suited for use as both inherently flame retardant plastics and as polymeric flame retardent additives.


Produces a series of high quality flame retardants, applicable to a wide range of plastics, polymers and polymer alloys. Comprehensive range of bromine based and phosphorus-based flame retardants, fire resistant plasticizers and hydraulic fluids for high demanding applications. Product line also includes high-purity grades of magnesium hydroxide and an ATO replacment synergist


Talc and Mica could be used in flame retardant formulations for improving mechanical properties. High aspect ratio products such as Luzenac HAR talc as well as mica products are most sutiable as they offer enhanced barier properties that could improve flame retardant performance in many formulations. Talc products also help with enhancing char content and char strength in flame retardant formulations.


Ken-React pyrophosphate-derived titanate coupling agents are said to act also as flame retardants. When used with mineral fillers, they reportedly enhance flame resistance without an increase in cost or handling difficulty or loss of physical and theological properties relative to unfilled or lightly filled compounds. Product is said to prevent splaying or exudation of antimony oxide/halogen-type systems.


Disflamoll phosphoric acid esters serve as flame-retardant plasticizers in PVC. Line includes various aryl, alkyl, and alkylaryl esters.


Produces a proprietary line of polyolefin flame-retardant compounds and concentrates serving wire & cable, molding and extrusion markets. Also manufactures XR Sheet, a wood-filled polypropylene sheet serving automotive, transportation and building & construction markets.


PCC now offers a new line of safe, non-halogenated flame retardant systems for polypropylene. FlamaSol FR contains no decabromodiphenyl oxide (decabrome) nor antimony, two common ingredients in most flame retardant packages. Decabrome and antimony trioxide are considered potentially toxic and are thus being eliminated in flame retardant formulations, with manufacturing scheduled to cease in 2012.

Our Solutions Center: The PCC Solutions Center developed FlamaSol FR in response to a rising need in the marketplace for safer flame resistant plastics. Our team of scientists at PCC tested a wide variety of materials under simulated temperature and combustion conditions to find the best formulations for our customers.

PCC's new non-brominated flame retardant PP system produces superb extinguishing performance without the use of these hazardous chemicals. FlamaSol FR is ideal for use in construction materials (electrical conduit, junction boxes, switch boxes), warehousing products (shelving and pallets), personal electronic equipment (computers, printers and televisions) and other applications where extreme heat may cause ignition. Products made with FlamaSol FR will self-extinguish, protecting surroundings and personnel from fire hazards.

FlamaSol FR for PP surpasses testing standards of UL 94 and ANSI 4996 for plastic pallets and performs better than our previous flame retardant systems. FlamaSol FR PP is appropriate for use in injection molding, extrusion and blow molding applications.


FRC-2005 flame retardant/uv stabilizer concentrate system for polyolefins provides a combination of properties for film, sheet, foams and molded articles. Properties include low specific gravity; no degradation of physical properties of base polymer; long-term thermal and uv protection; non-yellowing and non-blooming; no heavy metals; no forming of dioxins when heated or incinerated; passing UL, MVSS-302 and NFPA flame tests when properly formulated. Variations available for low- and high density PE and PP.

An extensive line of flame retarchnts and smoke suppressants including alumina trihydrate (ATH), magnesium hydroxide, zinc borate, zinc stannatc, zinc hydroxystannate, antimony oxide, aminonium octamolybdate and molybdenum oxide. Our proprietary C-TEC product line is designed to be cost effective replacements of antimony trioxide and ammonium octamolybdate (AOM).
