Flairy angel; Singing sensation stepping out in style.

BRITAIN'S Got Talent star Susan Boyle took her first steps towards a full-blown makeover yesterday,

The 48-year-old - nicknamed the Hairy Angel - left home wearing a funky new leather jacket with a rounded collar over a trendy print pattern dress.

The singing sensation had also been to the hairdressers for some help with her wild Scottish locks.

Susan, whose breathtaking performance last week has now been seen by more than 100 million people online, admitted she would also be watching her weight ahead of the next round.

She said: "I will need to sort out my dress sense and my weight. It wasn't until I saw myself on TV that I realised how frumpy I was.

"It's not a big thing - it doesn't worry me too much - but I will be doing a bit more exercise to help me sort it out.

"When there is this much attention on you, you have to plan what you wear every day and look your best.

"I just want to look nice, and smart." However, her new look may not please BGT judge Amanda Holden, who warned Susan to stay the way she was. She said her charm was in her looks and vowed to protect her from the type of pop star makeover which Paul Potts enjoyed after he won the talent contest in 2007, receiving a "Hollywood smile" from Simon Cowell.

Susan, who lives in West Lothian with her cat Pebbles, wowed the crowd last week with her performance of I Dreamed a Dream. Now the pressure is on for the next round and yesterday she admitted: "I'm nervous but I'm trying to take it all in my stride. I am trying to be calm and relaxed to get rid of the nerves.

"I can only do my best and see how it goes. I have to say there is always room for improvement. I'm just going to go out there and sing my heart out." In-demand Susan says her phone has not stopped ringing since her appearance.

Two fans even drove from Alloa yesterday for a chance to see their heroine - who claimed she had never been kissed - and steal a peck on the cheek.

She has also received hundreds of letters of support from all over the world.

Susan said: "I have so many cards from far afield and people wanting to congratulate me. It's unbelievable. I haven't had time to open them all, and I've nowhere to put them. But it's lovely reading how much people enjoyed my performance."

FINALLY! Susan's spring outfit is a welcome departure from all her usual dowdy ensembles.

Stepping out in a patterned Wallis wrap dress and pounds 45 Primark leather blazer, she treated her admiring public to a welcome injection of colour in her wardrobe. She even revealed a pretty good set of pins in those tortoise-print court shoes.

OK, so the jacket throws the whole outfit off. But the dress is a good length and flatters her figure.

Her fashion sense is still a long way off her singing talent - but we love her for having fun trying.
