Alaska Communications (NASDAQ: ALSK) is taking a leadership role in delivering high-speed, reliable broadband to its Alaska customers using Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), the company said.

FWA technology advancements provide Alaska Communications a capital-efficient approach to improve its competitive positioning for residential and small business customers.

As an important validation of FWA deployment, Alaska Communications has reached a milestone in its deployment of high-speed broadband service to underserved areas of Alaska under the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Connect America Fund Phase II (CAF-II). Alaska Communications expects to cover approximately 6,000 households by the end of 2018 covering both CAF II eligible and other locations in the respective communities.

Ritter shared an update on Alaska Communications' FWA deployment, leveraging RADWIN's FWA solutions, with the telecommunications community at two recent industry events, Wispapalooza and the Telecom Infra Project's TIP Summit.
