Five picnickers including two brothers drown in Karachi's Hawkes Bay.
KARACHI -- Five persons including two brothers drowned in Karachi's Hawkes Bay beach while bathing near camp point on Sunday morning.
According to Edhi Foundation, five youngsters - said to be friends - drowned while swimming in the sea. The search for the drowned people started early on Sunday morning who reportedly drowned in a bid to rescue one another.
Four dead bodies have been recovered from the sea while one boy is transferred to hospital in unconscious condition. All five of them were friends, and had gone on picnic at the sea.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) emergency response center's in-charge Mohammad Mairaj, the incident was reported at 7 o'clock in the morning, and the rescue operation was started immediately.
The divers recovered dead bodies of 25-year-old Danish, 19-year-old Syed Raza, 17-year-old Mashal Minhas and Zubair. 23-year-old Syed Umar was rushed to hospital in unconscious state.
It is worth mentioning here that Syed Raza and Syed Umar are brothers. The drowned persons belonged to Buffer Zone, Federal B area and North Nazimabad.
The dead bodies were handed over to the families after completing formal proceedings at civil hospital. A sobbing atmosphere was witnessed when the dead bodies reached home. On the other hand, those who went to beach for recreation also became fearful after hearing about the drowning of these five friends.
In 2014, at least 41 people died after drowning at Seaview. Pakistan is ranked in the list of the countries having higher frequency of deaths due to drowning, and significant measures have been taken in recent years to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
