Five of a family injured in acid attack.
BAHAWALNAGAR -- Five members of a family suffered serious burns at the hands of unidentified attackers who threw acid on them when they were asleep in their house in a locality of Chishtian in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to Chishtian A-Division police, a labourer, Fayyaz, a resident of Central Park, Ghareeb Mohalla, and four other members of his family were asleep when three unknown people sneaked into their house in the wee hours.
The intruders threw acid on Fayyaz and others and manged to escape before they could react.
As a result, Fayyaz, his daughters Shahzia (17) and Rimsha (14), his son Ali Haider and Shazia's husband Allah Ditta suffered acid burns and were rushed to the local Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
The doctors at THQ hospital referred Shahzia, Rimsha and Allah Ditta to the burns unit of the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, because of their serious condition.
THQ Hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr Anwar told Dawn that Shazia suffered 80 per cent burns, while both Rimsha and Allah Ditta suffered 40pc burns.
According to sources close to the victim family, Shazia who was at the centre of a matrimonial dispute arising a few months back, was the main target of the attackers.
The police have registered a case on the complaint of Fayyaz against three unidentified attackers and started investigation.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Riaz Bukhari said some suspects had been taken into custody and were being interrogated.
Meanwhile, Bahawalnagar District Police Officer retired Capt Mustansar Feroze said a fair investigation would be conducted into the matter and the culprits would be brought to the task.
