JALALABAD (PAN): At least five houses were burnt by a fire that broke in the Spin Khwar village of the Batikot district in the eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
In a brief chat with Pajhwok Afghan News, district chief Naeem Jan Shinwari said last evenings incident caused a loss of almost two million afghanis to the owners. Ten animals were killed by the blaze.
He added the blaze at Ali Khans residence spread to other houses in the neighbourhood. Firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the flames, the official continued.
Ali Khan sought support from charitable organisations to the affectees, who could not repair their houses without outside assistance.
Drugs recovered: A day earlier, more than 29 kilograms of opium were seized from a vehicle, whose driver was arrested. Nangarhar Crimes Branch chief Col. Saida Gul informed police recovered the opium during a search of a car next to their headquarters at the Janderma Bridge.
