Fit for a king; There are so many takeaways around, it's hard to know which is best. We had a take-out from Chinese takeaway King Wok in Canton, Cardiff, and it was a strong contender for the top.

Where is it? 173 King's Road, Cardiff, CF11 9DE Tell us more... A small, friendly local Chinese with a decent menu containing all the items you'd expect to find at a local takeaway.

Does it deliver? Yes, delivery and collection. Call 029 2034 0197. Delivery is 50p as we live under 1.5 miles away. Over 1.5 miles delivery costs PS1.

On the menu: A great selection of main dishes, starters and sides, and it offers great value meal deals too.

What did you order? We fancied a proper pancake roll for starters (PS1) and we wanted plenty of choice of flavours so we picked satay chicken (PS4), sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style, honeyglazed king prawns (PS5.50), crispy beef (PS5.50) and King Wok special fried rice (PS5).

What did it cost? The order came to PS25.60 and we had lots of food with plenty of leftovers.

How was the service? The staff member who took our order is a gem. We are regulars to this takeaway and he always remembers our favourites and that we need to be alerted by a phonecall as we live in a top-floor flat with a broken bell.

The delivery driver, however, didn't phone us when he was at the door and left the food in the hallway, alerting us only after he returned to his car. A bit odd, but we got the food in the end.

The order did come five minutes earlier than predicted though.

Did the food arrive hot? Our order was the perfect temperature when we served it.

How did it taste? The desired pancake roll was delicious. Crispy on the outside and not too greasy, it was choc-full of beansprouts, little chunks of meat and shrimp.

The sweet and sour was sticky and had lots of chicken in it, the sauce was a little more sweet than sour, but we're a sucker for this dish so I loved it. The crispy beef was perfectly crisp and tasted great, it could have done with a little more sauce though.

We loved the fried rice - it had a lot going on, maybe too much for the amount of other dishes we'd ordered, but the slight drizzle of barbecue sauce and slices of chicken and pork on top were really good quality and tasty.

The honeyglazed king prawns - wow.

We had never tasted anything like that before. They were huge king prawns, coated in a perfectly crispy, light batter and smothered in a sweet, creamy, yet delicate sauce.

The taste was indescribable. We loved them and would definitely order again.

In contrast the satay chicken was palatable, but we would not reorder it.

But the chicken King Wok use is by far better than a lot of Chinese takeaways we've have had in the past.

Portion size: The portions were more than adequate and we were full to the brim. There was enough for lunch the next day too.

Verdict: King Wok is a solid and reliable Chinese takeaway and definitely a go-to for honeyglazed king prawns.
