Fish introduces Springing Bock Larger. (Weekly Specialty Beer Report).
Fish Brewing's Crayne Horton reports that "Springing Bock is a copper colored, strong seasonal beer brewed to celebrate the coming of Spring. It is a full-bodied lager, made with a large percentage of Munich malt and just enough chocolate malt to impart delicate notes of dark chocolate and caramel. In the German tradition, we have brewed this beer with noble Hallertauer hops for a subtle hop aroma. Springing Bock is truly delicious, with the smooth malt character which comes from a lengthy maturation period at cold temperatures."
Springing Bock is made with pale, caramel, chocolate and Munich malts, and contains 7% alcohol by volume. IBU level is 30, and the hop bill includes Columbus and Hallertauer.
Horton reports that Springing Bock is the latest edition of the Leavenworth Beer styles to be brewed at the Fish Brewing Company brewery in downtown Olympia. It will also be the first Leavenworth seasonal lager to be released by the Mighty Fish Brewers. This unfiltered Lager will be available April 1, 2002, and will follow on the successful debut of Leavenworth's Ingalls' Extra Special Bitter, which is still being served throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Fish Brewing Company brewed Leavenworth Springing Bock Lager in early February for spring release. The origin of this beer's name comes from the traditional German symbol for bock beers, the Billy Goat
Fish Brewing Company will kick off its own celebration of Spring rites with a special release party for the Springing Bock on March 20, the first day of Spring. That night, the Fishbowl Pub in downtown Olympia will host a German sausage and Bock beer festival, complete with polka music and potato salad. Prizes for the best Bavarian costume and goat dancing will be awarded. Festival attendees will be able to sample other ales from Fish Brewing, including the original Fish Tale Organic I.P.A., Fish Tale Organic Amber, and the Organic River Run Rye Seasonal Ale. Other Leavenworth beers will also be on tap, including Hodgson's India Pale Ale, Whistling Pig Hefeweizen and Blind Pig Dunkel Weizen.
