First volume of Macedonian Atlas of Dialects promoted.

The Krste Misirkov Macedonian Language Institute promoted the first volume of the Macedonian Atlas of Dialects at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU) on 22 April. It is the first scholarly work of its kind among the South Slavic peoples.

Opening the promotion, MANU President Georgi Stardelov said it was a grandiose work adding that, "dialects revealed the soul of a people". According to Stardelov, the volume is also a confirmation of the German theory of the nation according to which a people stretches as far as its language does ... This work reflects the power, freedom and triumph of the Macedonian language most authentically and lastingly."

The Atlas was made by a team of the Department of Dialects of the Institute, the followers of the founding father of this national project, Academician Bozidar Vidoevski. According to Dr. Ubavka Gajdova, 3-4 more volumes are yet to be published.
