First arrests for bad checks expected today.
Jeddah, Aug. 19 -- Five bad checks amounting to a total of half a million riyals have been referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP), informed sources said.
It is expected that the arrest order for those responsible for the checks will be issued Wednesday morning in line with a recent Cabinet ruling that calls for the detention of those writing bad checks.
The police referred the five cases to the BIP along with bank statements.
The sources added that the Resolution of Commercial Disputes office will continue to look into cases of bad checks until commercial courts are established.
If someone issues another bad check within three years of being convicted of a first offense, he will be fined SR100,000 and be sentenced to five-years imprisonment.
