FIRST AND THIRD PRIZES WERE NOT AWARDED IN THE VOCAL section of the most recent (the 67th) Orchestre symphonique de Montreal Standard Life Competition, held last November. Instead, the $15,000 second prize, offered by Standard Life, the Jeunesses Musicales of Canada Foundation and the Opera Guild, was shared equally by sopranos Marianne Fiset and Pascale Beaudin and bass-baritone Alexandre Sylvestre. They also received the Orford Arts Centre Prizes, which will cover tuition and accommodation for two weeks at the centre this summer. The prize for best interpretation of a Canadian work, offered by the OSM Volunteer Committee, went to mezzo Chantal Scott.
