First Marble Slab opens in Mexico.

NexCen Brands has announced the opening of the first Marble Slab Creamery store in Mexico. The store opened at the Galerias Guadalajara, a premiere shopping center in Mexico with 220 retail stores. The store opened under an existing master franchise agreement with Julian Reyez-Cuevas that calls for the development of 35 Marble Slab Creamery franchised stores in Mexico over a 20-year term.

Kenneth J. Hall, Chief Executive Officer of NexCen, stated, "We are delighted with the entry of Marble Slab Creamery into Mexico through this first franchised store. This marks our fourth franchised brand in Mexico and continues the international expansion of NexCen's franchised brands."

Chris Dull, President of NexCen Franchise Management, stated, "We are pleased to be working closely with this master developer to establish the Marble Slab Creamery brand in Mexico. We believe that Galerias Guadalajara is a great location to introduce this franchised brand to consumers in this market."

On the domestic front, Marble Slab Creamery announced a new program, in cooperation with popular TV chef Sandra Lee and the organization Share our Strength, which is part of an effort aimed at ending childhood hunger in America. Share Our Strength is described by Marble Slab as the leading organization working to ensure that no child goes hungry in America.

The new program, called Sandra Lee's Taste of Summer, will feature 16 new ice cream Tasty Creations invented by Lee for Marble Slab. They follow her "Semi-Homemade 70/30" culinary philosophy of combining 70% ready-made products with 30% fresh ingredients. Marble Slab customers are invited to vote on the company's website for their favorite among the flavors and the one receiving the most online votes will be featured in a forthcoming cookbook by Lee.

The new flavors, to be offered one per week from May 28 to September 17, are Memorial Day Madness, Sweet Strawberry Festival, Birthday Beach Party, Dad's Triple Play, Cheesecake Summer Kick-Off[, Red, White and Blueberries, Peanut Butter Picnic, Sunday Brunch, Family Game Night, Camp Caramel Crunch, Black Cherry Jubilee, Chocolate Banana Boardwalk, Krispy Kite Flight, Hazelnut Hammock, Labor Day Lake Trip, and Sweet Retreat.

"Sandra Lee's Taste of Summer allows Marble Slab Creamery to connect with its chef-driven roots, while also bringing attention to an important cause and the wonderful organization, Share Our Strength," stated Jenn Johnston, senior vice president of brand marketing for NexCen Franchise Management, Inc. "We are thrilled to work with Sandra Lee, whose sensibility and taste for fresh ingredients align directly with Marble Slab Creamery's commitment to ice cream excellence."

In addition to hosting the TV shows Sandra Lee Celebrates, Semi-Homemade Cooking and Sandra's Money Saving Meals, Lee is a bestselling author of twenty books and editor-in-chief of Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazine. She was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award for her involvement with many charitable and philanthropic organizations, as well as the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2009 by the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate for contributions made to society. Lee is also the national spokesperson for Share our Strength's Great American Bake Sale, a groundbreaking program focused on ending childhood hunger in America. Lee and Marble Slab are each donating $25,000 to Share Our Strength. Marble Slab customers are also invited to make their own contributions through the Marble Slab website all summer long.

Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit, is dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America by 2015 through its No Kid Hungry campaign which enrolls children in federal nutrition programs, invests in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy meals on a budget, and builds public-private partnerships to end hunger, both nationally and at the state level.
