Firms running scared as Gest continues to prove popular; SPREADWISE TV SPECIALS.

Byline: Alex Hilton

DAVID GEST remains the popular choice with the public to win I'm A Celebrity and Hills are running scared after the firm had been happy to take on all-comers in the early days of the competition, writes Alex Hilton.

"We never thought he had a chance and were happy to lay bets at all prices. David Gest is now the 4-7 favourite shortened all the way from 33-1," said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams.

Meanwhile, Hills have installed David Dimbleby as 3-1 favourite to become the next permanent chairman of the BBC in succession to Michael Grade.

"Grade's departure to ITV came as a shock to everyone and it could take them some time to organise th search for a successor, but with Dimbleby losing out to Grade as recently as 2004 it seems reasonable to regard him as a strong contender," said Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Next BBC chairman: 3 David Dimbleby, 4 Sir John Birt, 5 Baroness Jay, 8 Dame Patricia Hodgson, 9 Lord Burns, 10 Tim Gardam, Chris Smith, 12 Richard Lambert, David Liddiment, Chris Patten, Michael Portillo, 14 Liz Forgan, John Willis, 16 Richard Eyre, 20 Lord Puttnam' 25 Richard Tait.
