Firm hosts legal costs seminar.

International law firm Eversheds has hosted a high-profile seminar on the future of legal costs at its Birmingham offices.

A number of industry recognised experts on costs spoke at the event, including Birmingham circuit judge His Honour Simon Brown QC, and His Honour Michael Cook, the author of Cook on Costs.

Partner Mark Surguy, who hosted the event on behalf of Eversheds, said: "As businesses continue to operate in a tough economic climate, we are all being faced with increased pressure to keep costs down. Lawyers fees are no exception to this, and this event has provided an invaluable insight into how lawyers and their clients can best work together to manage their costs."

A successful pilot scheme has recently been run at the Birmingham Mercantile, Technology and Construction courts, which included new measures to assist judges to actively control costs.

It is expected that these measures will now be rolled out nationally.

The event gave members of the local legal community an insight into the impact of the measures, and the approach that judges may now take to what they perceive to be unrealistic or unnecessary costs.

The event was run by the Practical Law Company and attended by representatives from major international, national and regional law firms, as well as barristers chambers as well as businesses.
