Firemen: Pay up or we strike.
TALKS aimed at averting a national fire strike are to take place tomorrow.
The Fire Brigades Union warned last night that if agreement isn't reached they will go ahead and ballot their members on strike action.
The FBU claims fire authority chiefs reneged on a promised 3.5 per cent pay increase supposed to have been implemented last November.
"It's time to pay up," said Mike Fordham, FBU Assistant General Secretary. "No more shenanigans. No more new conditions. The national employers can either throw the book at the modernisation process, or they can embrace it, just as we have, by honouring their side of the bargain."
If a strike ballot is taken the result will be announced on August 31.
