Firehouse funding announced.
BOSTON -- Sen. Stephen M. Brewer, D-Barre, has announced that the House and Senate passed a bill authorizing up to $1.24 billion in capital spending over the next five years to fund facility improvements and general government operations across the Commonwealth. Included in the bill is a $2 million authorization for the construction of a firehouse in North Brookfield.
"Firefighters are essential to the safety of our communities, so ensuring that they work in up-to-date facilities is important,'' said Mr. Brewer. "The funding authorization in this bill allows for North Brookfield to construct a worthwhile project.''
The bill will now go to the governor for his approbation. Once a bond bill is signed into law, the administration has unilateral control over the spending of all borrowed funds. Not all funds authorized by the Legislature are required to be released, and some funding projects may not be released in their entirety.
