Firefighters promoted, honored.

WORCESTER - Two firefighters were promoted, seven received commendations, six were cited for their military service and two received a magazine's award for heroism and community service in a ceremony Tuesday in City Hall. In photo above, Firefighter Annmarie Pickett, flanked by her sons, Kyle Shamlian, 16, left, and Connor Shamlian, 14, raises her right hand while being promoted to lieutenant. Lt. Pickett is the first woman promoted to this rank. In photo at left, Robert Courtney is promoted to lieutenant while his 3-year-old son, Cameron, holds his father's new badge. Commended were Firefighter Robert Binette for an off-duty ice rescue at Wachusett Mountain; Capt. Dennis Dolan for outstanding management of a carbon monoxide incident on Main Street; Firefighters Jeffrey Rutkiewicz and Karl Solomon for a rescue at Hudson and Townsend streets; Lt. John Kennedy and Firefighters Joseph Carraher and Michael George for a rescue on Goulding Street. Receiving citations for military deployment were District Chief James Russell, Lt. Lawrence Gay and firefighters Scott Armstrong, Gina Genatossio-Dykas, Ralph Knight and Ralph Tiscione. The Firehouse Magazine Heroism & Community Service Award was presented to Firefighter Gary Anger and Lt. Mark Chestna.
