Fire crew 'lured into riot trap'.

RIOTERS lured firefighters to a housing estate with a hoax call before pelting them with rocks, it emerged yesterday.

The thugs then went on the rampage in the nationalist Dunclug Park, Ballymena, Co Antrim, before pelting the police with bits of pavement.

One witness said: "It was pretty hectic. There must have been about 50 people involved and many had their faces covered with scarves."

Ballymena fire sub-officer John Anderson said they were called to the Dunclug estate around 11.30pm on Sunday after getting a hoax call that a building was on fire.

He added: "There was no sign of fire but there were youths further up the estate. Missiles were thrown at us but they didn't reach us."
