Fire at KFH destroys four launches.

KARACHI -- A new cargo launch ready for sail was fully gutted while three other launches were partly burnt at Karachi Fish Harbour (KFH) when fire broke out in the wee hours of Thursday causing loss of millions of rupees.

About one dozen fire tenders of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Dockyard put off the fire by mid-day, A KFH officer told.

He said that a large-size cargo launch, named Al-Muhammadi belonging to Mama Teddi, built at the KFH facility and was to be floated in the sea in next two or three days. According to a

very careful estimate , its market value was more than Rupees over one hundred million. Standing next, was another large-size launch undergoing repair and two other launches at the initial stage of their construction were also badly burnt. This loss also valued approximately Rs one million.

He said that Marine Security authorities and Sindh police have completed their survey of the site to assess the causes and they would share their reports with Karachi Fish Harbour authorities on Friday. KFH would decide its plan of action accordingly.

Karachi Fish Harbour has total capacity of constructing or repairing more than 150 launches at a time. Presently , 70 launches are stationed there, the KFH said.
